5 Things Every Puppy Owner Must Have

Nothing is more exciting than bringing home a puppy for the first time! However, it can be an overwhelming experience for many new puppy owners if you don’t know what you need. That’s why we’ve compiled 5 must have things every puppy owner needs:

Puppy Food. Because your puppy is a growing dog, it is important to feed your little one with the right type of food. High quality, holistic food made specifically for a puppy is designed with the nutritional needs your growing dog needs. Speak to your veterinarian or one of our knowledgeable team members at Hollywood Houndz for food recommendations. We carry a range of high-quality dog food that has the proper blend of proteins, vitamins, and minerals that every puppy needs.

Collar and Harness Puppies love to play but they also grow rather quickly, which is why it is important to not only select a collar that is comfortable and durable, but that can also be easily adjusted too. We also recommend using a harness instead of a neck collar when it comes to puppies and small dogs. A body or chest harness can evenly distribute strain and pressure when your dog is pulling and learning how to walk on a leash.

Chew Toys. Dogs have natural urges to chew things and puppies are no different—especially a teething puppy. Like a human baby, puppies lose their teeth and grow in permanent teeth too! It is good to have high-quality chew toys that your puppy can use to distract him from teething discomfort. One example could be a hard nylon toy or a good quality thick rope toy. Try to avoid the rawhide chews and anything that has small or sharp metal or plastic parts. Having the proper chew toys will keep your puppy entertained and will deter him from chewing your shoes or furniture.

Treats. A puppy will not know how to respond to its new surrounding when you first bring him or her home. To help get your puppy to properly behave, you can use tasty treats as a reward. Dog treats are great for encouraging the behaviors that we want to see from our puppies.

Bed. It is important that your puppy has a cozy place that he or she can feel secure in. A well-made bed will be comfortable and durable, helping your puppy to sleep through the night. If you are in the middle of house training and have chosen to use the crate method, select a bed that will fit in the crate and provide the ultimate comfort to your puppy.
