At Hollywood Houndz we value our guests’ well-being. During the hurricane season, we have an additional concern with everybody’s safety – boarders and staff. Here you’re going to find some details about our preparation prior to hurricanes.
Firstly, Hollywood Houndz has an Emergency Action plan specific for hurricanes. This plan describes internal procedures that are taken when such weather conditions are predicted. It encompasses protocols that are put in place if we face flooding inside or outside the store, extended power outages, fire, and if we have to contact authorities’ emergency lines. Before the storm, we make sure that we have enough provision of potable water and food.
During a storm, one staff member stays overnight to ensure all dogs’ safety. We closely monitor local weather forecast, so that to evaluate if an evacuation is necessary. If so, owners are contacted and informed about this situation. In case we can’t contact You, we have an evacuation plan ready. We also pack all of our front store – food, treats, toys – to make sure that they don’t become a hazard.
Apart from the tension involved when a hurricane approaches, we also have good memories to share. Two years ago, during Hurricane Mathew, we considered an evacuation necessary. Owners were contacted and some of our boarders were distributed among our staff and owners’ homes. We brought Daisy and Ringo to stay overnight, so that to guarantee that the dogs’ felt comfortable and safe. Up to this date, our “Hurricane” guests’ owners remember such act of care and concern…
You’ll be reading these lines when Dorian will be already gone. All important procedures are in place and we’re sure that our boarders and staff will be safe and sound!
